How to make your own sling

Making your own Sling

This is easy!  You will need a sewing machine , an iron, 2 sling rings, thread and about 4 yards of material.  ( I would suggest Walmarts clearance rack you will often find material for $1.00 a yard)

Lay your material unfolded on a long tabel or floor.  Measure and cut out a piece that is 89 in long and 35 in wide.

Note : This will make a longer tailed sling, if you are short you may want to shorten this length.  You can measure from the top of your shoulder down to your wasit, double that and then add how long you wish to have your tail to make it the perfect length for you.

Get out your iron and board.  You will be making a 1/4 in seam on the bottm of the width of the material on one side. fold and iron this seam in.  Sew across this .

Next you will lay the sling across floor or tabel and pin in a 1 1/2 in seam each side,  going down the whole length of the sling.  pin and iron this in.  Sew down.

You then place flat again on table, mark your center on the unfinished side of the width of the sling.  You will then fold this in 1/2 way to  the center mark and 1/2 way to mark on each side.  Then fold in half again. Pin this down and sew across top of this to keep the folds you made.

Now you will need your rings.  I use any where from a 2 in ring or 3 in ring.  Get your choice at www.nestmom.com she carries a low cost and lots of varietys. You will not find these in a store, unless you wish to use a unpolished heavy hardware store ring.        Place rings through folded top.  Fold this over the rings.  sew this down very well , back stiching . You can then secure the sides.  Make sure this is sewn down good.
