birthdoula/kneepress.JPG

This is an example of Knee press the doula is helping to relieve back pain during a contration. ( example)

birthdoula/wallsupport.JPG

This is an example of Hip squeeze while supporting on a wall. It is a good way to stop during a contraction and grab a wall while your partner or Doula may do hip squeeze or pressure to help relieve some discomfort.

birthdoula/tolietsit.JPG

Toliet sitting is often a help when labor is slowed down or when a mother needs rest. It is a very good position to labor in.

birthdoula/sidelayhold.JPG

This is an example of how a mother can labor laying on her side, this is assited by partner holding her leg so she can relax through the contraction.

birthdoula/lounge.JPG

This is an example of lunging which can be helpful when baby is not quite centered to the cervics. This can be used during a contraction .

birthdoula/hipsqueezeball.JPG

Example of Hip squeeze while on birth ball. This allows for baby to move and mom to rest, the hip squeeze prvides comfort to back pain.

birthdoula/dancehold.JPG

Assisted squat example although not a complete squat. This is good for labor.

birthdoula/holdsquat.JPG

Another way to assist a squat during an contration. This works good for strong Dads as they usaully are taller and have more muscle.

birthdoula/ballneck.JPG

Birth ball sitting with massage ( also using the swelly belly soother to help soothe neck pain) Keeping the shoulders untense is very important.

birthdoula/Rhett009.jpg

This is an assisted squat during a contraction (real) this allows the baby to move ( because we were also swaying) giving the benifit of gravity to speed up the labor process.

birthdoula/Rhett008.jpg

Assisted swaying again.

birthdoula/Rhett007.jpg

Breathing and light touching along with a cool wash cloth against the face as the mother is going through transition.

birthdoula/Rhett006.jpg

This is kinda getting it from both ends. The front is helping with breathing and soft touch along with pressure points in the hands for the pain. The back person is giving encouragement softly and helping with back pain during the contractions.

birthdoula/Rhett004.jpg

This is applying heat on the back with my swelly belly soother. This helps not only with pain but it kinda gives the mother something else to concentrate on. The use of heat and sometimes switching on and off with cool ice is most welcome by most women.

Believe it or not..... Lots of support ends up in most cases being the best births for Mom as she is pampered from severyone and they take turns helping out! You always get a refreshed person to do hip squeeze or massage. The jokes are welcome and the encouragement from all is there.

Assisting  with pressure during a contraction.  This is helpful during the harder contractions.  It is my experience that when it is not tollerated any more it is time to see baby!!

birth8.jpg

Making sure Mom and Dad have from the very first moment of birth the time needed to bond with baby.  It is a speacial time not to take away.  Breastfeeding is introduced and the baby is most alert at birth to look at Mom and Dad.  It is very amazing how they are just as intrested in seeing you as you are in seeing them. They need this speacial time to bond.

Not all care providers allow for this kind of loving care, please check with your Dr or Midwife to find one whom is willing to allow for lots of position change, choices , and free movement.   You are most likely to find this kind of atomosphere with a birthing center or a hospital whom alllows for natural birthing.  Not all are the same and not all have relaxed rules and some have many limitations.     The key is to find a provider whom you are most comfortable with as this is YOUR BIRTH.

These birth pictures were taken from Home births and are donated  for your educational use.

Our local area has a net work provided for you to help learn about your choices for birth.  Please veiw www.Birthnetwork.com   The chapter I most frequent is the Macomb chapter held at the Macomb Coummunity College (Mi) Library once a month.  It features lots of educational talks on birth choices with many care providers whom share their experience.  Please check it out for the next meeting.
